How to bounce back after making a mistake on a client project.
If you make a mistake on a project it is important to ‘own’ it, I always tell my team, own your mistakes and hold yourself accountable.
Consider how the mistake could adversely impact upon your clients experience, ensuring that any solution that you consider places your clients needs at the centre of the resolution.
Invariably, when a mistake happens it can feel like a hard knock, you tried hard and then this issue arose that you didn’t see coming, the issue may have left you feeling stressed and feelings of self doubt can creep in.
I advocate to give yourself time to settle from the angst that this mistake may have caused, you are only human and we all need to allow ourselves the grace to take some breathing space between a problem arising and the ability to achieve clarity about how the problem arose in the first place and what steps to take to prevent it from happening again. Was there a problem with your systems, a flaw in the efficiency of checks and balances, or was it simply that you didn’t adequately manage a message somewhere along the line.
Whatever the reason, you now have the ability to implement a change into your business systems that will make you more resilient, take the opportunity to solidify processes, craft key touch points that hold others to account and define your expectations so that the experience makes you stronger.
